For over an year now I've been telling myself that I'll have to capture for posterity the words of wisdom that pour forth from the mouths of one of my best friends in b'bay. So here is D. holding forth on most things that occupy his mind.
T: "I'll have to go to office 2mrw"
D: "Yeah - such are the perils of urbanisation"
D: "R. is blogging his last post from Bandra - like it is the last dance with Mary Jane"
Me: "Come on D. I'm trying to capture your words of wisdom. Let me hear some"
D: "They come accidentally - like meteor showers"
D: "Life is like a thermodynamic process. There is a state that you are in and the path that you've taken to get there. Whether you prefer to take a good path and end up in a bad state or you prefer to take a bad path and end up in a good state makes all the difference. Us - we are in bad states because we wanted good paths. But then again, paths are time-dependent while states are not. So probably we'd do the whole Olive-And-Cab-And-Card-Debt thing rather than the Home-Localtrain-Apartment/Car because we can't go back and try to do the first few years out of B-School after we end up in a good state (meaning financially)"
And this was just the outcome of 30 mins with him. Other such insights, regretfully enough, weren't captured when they were uttered. But someday I'll put them together and write a book and be hailed as the next Deepak Chopra/Osho/Norman Vincent Peale. Until then, or until I have the opportunity to capture more of D's sayings, this is it.
