Decluttering my life

Decluttering my life. Moving continents at a week's notice alerted me to how many things I surround myself with - most of which I don't use or need. This time around, armed with new insight, I have vowed to declutter my life. The spare, almost ascetic apartment suits me well. Ascetic indeed, except for the constant bottles of red wine on my shelf) and the micro brewery beer in the fridge.

Minimalistic. That is how I like my Decor. Art. Music. Even organizations. Minimalism avoid clutter. India is a riot of sounds. Of color. Western countries have little that scream for attention so that the things that matter do come to your notice. Even taste. I like the use of a couple of spices. No more. The best appetizer I've had is probably at Eve in Alexandria, VA - a starter that was almost a soup of steamed mussels flavored with turmeric and mustard.

And that is how I like my music. Minimalistic. I like John Digweed more and more. Yeah - he is old. Even dated (yes, I know - that expression is also "dated"). These days when trance is becoming more pop, I turn to the old days when trance was just beginning to split into sub-genres like house.

One of the weird things about growing up is this incredible self confidence. I don't care about being liked or admired any more - at least by people whom I don't like and admire myself. I see myself a few years back as this pretentious guy whom I'd hate to meet now ;-) Well, probably I'd hate the me now 10 years from now.

Part of decluttering is to cultivate deeper relationships - which with the shortage on time in my life also means that I cultivate fewer relationships. Of course, with new people being added, that also means letting go of some in the past.
