Two years of B-School with its constant brain candy is addictive. After that, any job seems mundane and tiresome. People wonder why MBAs switch jobs so often. After the initial thrill of a new job has worn off, you start settling into a routine. Most of the work starts becoming repetitive. You start feeling that your rather considerable talents (any MBA worth his salt has an ego as big as a house) are being wasted. You consider yourself underpaid. You hear of batchmates moving into jobs that sound more interesting, and of course, pay more ;-) You start wondering if it is time to move into something new. Of course things aren't that bad that you have started to look out. At least, not just yet. And then you get to hear of this fantastic job opening. Something that you'd have given an arm and a leg for back on campus. Hmmm...maybe you ought to give it a shot. You tell yourself that you owe it to yourself. And as for loyalty, screw that. That went out of style ages back.
That is the life of the quintessential MBA for the first few years out of B-School - changing jobs, cities and industries at the drop of a hat. I know people who've changed 4 jobs in 2 years. 5, if you count week-long stints as well! I'd never thought I'd be one of those. But hey, you never know when it'll happen to you!
